36 Days of Type is a project that invites designers, illustrators and graphic artists to express their particular interpretation of the letters and numbers of the Latin alphabet. It is a yearly open call that takes place on Instagram, where people share their work for thirty-six days. Read more about the project on their website. 2022 was the ninth year of the challenge, and the first time I participated.
I worked with the Phosphate solid font to create my letter and number forms. I chose a palette of four main colours for the letter layers, and a larger range of colours for the pattern layers. The elements are a mix of hand-cut, and machine cut patterns made with Canson Mi-Tientes papers. Each letter / number was composed and assembled from four layers of paper with foam core spacers in between each, photographed, and then disassembled for further use in the series.
