Flowerburst Modular Installation

Flowerburst is my nickname for a shape I often create in my paper cutting work. It is somewhere between a flower and the burst of light from a firework.

I wanted to work in multiple paper cut pieces, and I began this project without a clear idea of what I would do with the pieces, or how many I would produce. Each one is hand cut from drawing paper painted with blue ink. There are currently about 115 individual flowerburst pieces that make up the installation.

Work in Progress in the studio.

I created the installation as a modular piece so that it could be configured for display in multiple arrangements. The flowerbursts are attached in layers to pieces of black foam core using small pins. Pictured above and below are two variations of the installation.
