Persona @ Exposure Gallery

Ben Johnson and I have work in the next group show at Exposure Gallery, titled Persona. The theme for the show is Portraits/Self Portraits, and it opens this Friday March 16th. This will be the last show at Exposure for a few months as they have been forced to relocate from their current space due to a huge rent increase the gallery can’t afford.

I will be gallery sitting on Sunday March 18th, from noon until 5pm if you would like to drop by for a visit - or to entertain me throughout the day. Bring snacks. :)

Old bottle collection

On Friday afternoon I went to see an art installation at Centre A by artist Germaine Koh. The show, called Overflow, was a site specific display of hundreds of glass bottles deemed as unusable and reclaimed from local recycling depot, United We Can. I was glad to have made it to the show before it closed this weekend. It was an impressive display and definately interesting to photograph. It was also a very telling installation about many aspects of Vancouver life, and the role recyclables play in the survival of the city’s homeless population.

LOVE

I had a fabulous time yesterday evening at the opening night of “Big Love”, a play written by Charles Mee and directed by my friend Joanna Garfinkel. It was a very enjoyable performance to watch, and kept me fully engaged the whole time. The cast is delightful and well cast in their roles, and the staging is fun and makes good use of the space.

I felt the woman characters were more fully realized than the males, (which I’m okay with) but maybe that’s just because I could identify the three brides as different aspects of my personality. I really loved this play and hope it does well during the run. It was a sold out performance yesterday evening.
